My Garden

We got the garden set up and planted!

First we laid out our edging stones to outline the garden which is 6 ft X 9 ft. It's small but it works. Next we started shoveling out grass (if you haven't figured it out by now this is where Jamison's Wiley Coyote post comes in.) Once we had all the grass out and Jamison had worked up the soil with a shovel I added two 40 pound bags of Earthgro Dehydrated Manure and Organic Humus and worked it into the existing soil. After that was accomplished I added three 40 pound bags of topsoil and worked that in as well. Then Jamison added four 42.5 liter bags (I couldn't lift these) of Leafgro Soil Conditioner High Humus Content Organic Compost and I spread that out. Once all that was worked in we took a break. Lex was getting up from her morning nap and it was lunch time.

Dig, dig, dig!

Ready to go!

When Lex went down for her afternoon nap I laid out the plants where I wanted them and got the first row (the herbs) planted. When Alexis woke up she wasn't a happy camper. Jamison got her calmed down but then she crawled to the sliding glass door and saw I was outside. A door between the two of us and it being the afternoon made her not very happy with the situation. So Jamison brought her out to me for a few minutes and then we went back inside.

All laid out.

Once we ate dinner and Lex went down for the night I went back out and finished up.

Planting away. (Could my legs be any whiter??)

All done!

So all together I've got 3 kinds of tomatoes (which are planted with marigolds and garlic to help ward off bugs). They are Roma, Big Boy and Grape. I also have okra, a golden bell pepper, cucumbers, two banana peppers, two green bell peppers, one Macho Nacho jalapeo pepper, green onions, peas, beans, carrots, more garlic, rosemary, regular thyme, golden lemon thyme, regular sage, golden sage and basil. Plus there is a red watermelon plant in one corner, a yellow watermelon in another, a cantaloupe plant in yet another and a pumpkin plant in (you'll never guess...come on give it a try...all right I'll tell you) the other corner. Lots of plants but a lot of them can grow under other plants (I've done this in the past and it has worked well.)

As an added bonus all my work earned 19 activity points so I used 14 of them on General Tso's chicken!

It's been a very good day.

You guys had a really productive weekend!! The new garden looks great, if you have more tomatoes, watermelon and cantaloupe than you can eat send some over my way! LOL

I'm sure I will. I always plant more than I need and end up sharing with friends. That's the fun of gardening! LOL If we had more space I would do "plant a row for the hungry" and donate the extra rows to a homeless shelter. Maybe my next yard will be big enough!
