Comcast to Offer Internet-Based Phone Service
You can almost hear the dark music of the Empire from Star Wars playing in the background. VOIP (Voice Over IP) is the future, there is no doubt about that. We are moving toward the future of convergence. One wire into your home that provides, Internet Access, Phone Service, and Television. Of course given my choice of ruthless Mega-Corporattions to be successful at this Comcast is the lowest on my list. They have a long standing reputation for being a company that rolls over to lawyers at the drop of a hat and they have a long history of poor customer service made even poorer when they run all the competition out of business. I would almost rather see the Government start regulating VOIP than to have Comcast move into the market and destroy the technology by over commercializing it to death. The only slightly positive thing that Comcast seems to have is that they are offering battery back up to guarantee phone service during a power failure. Which is a lot more visionary than anything they've ever done before. I'm willing a chalk that up to a fluke accident than any change in their fundamentally bad behavior as a corporate entity.
