Two Movies this weekend.

I watched two movies this weekend that I had heard were terrible. Now why do I bother to watch movies that are supposed to be bad? Well I've watched thousands of movies at this point in my life and I'm always looking for something more interesting and I hate to watch the same movie twice unless it's truly GREAT. This weekend I got the chance to watch Surviving Christmas and Catwoman. They were both almost unanimously dismissed by critics as wastes of film. I watched both and I have to say, neither of them failed to be good movies. Now they aren't likely to become icons of their respective genres, but they hardly represent the low points of their genres either. Actually both are pretty much better than average if you ask me. So if you've skipped this movies, may I recommend adding them to your watch list.

Dianne and I have kicked around a couple of theories of why people hated these two movies. Dianne say the Bennifer breakup killed Surviving Christmas. I don't know, I think that it was Ben's second attempt to make a Christmas movie and the first one just wasn't enjoyable to watch, so people didn't give the second one a chance.

On Catwoman, I don't know for sure what happened. Any movie that discusses the empowerment of women definitely doesn't sit well with the male audiences in America. But you would think that Haley Berry running around in leather with a whip would make up for that. But I think after Monster's Ball it's just hard for most men to take her seriously in a PG-13 movie trying to be sexy. The short answer of course is that it's not that kind of movie, but it's one of those Angel Heart incidents, once you do the seedy movie you lose all your street credibility with the debaucherious male audience.
