Parents See Pros, Cons to Notification Laws
I have very few positive things to say about Republicans and their brain-dead minions, but this study actually is reassuring to me. Not because Republicans are any closer to knowing what the right answers are, but because they know in their heart of hearts that they are fundamentally wrong.
"She noted that although half of the parents liked the idea of these laws, the great majority -- 96 percent -- anticipated at least one negative outcome, such as increases in teen pregnancy or STDs. "
This is important because the voiced reason by the Right Wing for these laws is as follows:
"Proponents claim parental notification is one way to promote abstinence and prevent teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. "
Which we all know is and utter load of crap. No matter what educational techniques or threats you use, a certain percentage of teenagers are going to have sex. No matter how much you Republican morons pray to God about it, it seems that there is something fundamental about that age group that some of them will become sexually active. All the parental notification laws do is guarantee that increasing numbers of those girls will get pregnant or get some sort of disease, which a practical person would say is unacceptable. But for Republicans it's prefect for them. Then the "law" breakers can get their punishment. See the issue here isn't that teenagers are having sex, it's that teenage girls are having sex without physical consequences, and they don't know so they can't judge them. Which is the cornerstone of Neo-Christian life, without a way to look down on women and talk about them behind their backs, they wouldn't have a foundation for their religion. Neo-Christians hate women, and lets be honest here folks, teenage girls are turning into women faster and faster everyday. Personally I think it's generally the inappropriate attention of the average Republican Neo-Christian men towards these girls that has caused all the alarm in the church community. Cause let's be honest folks, your average Republican males are lecherous bastards.
Personally I feel if you have to be notified by a law that your kid is getting birth control you're a failure as a parent and probably a failure as a human being. Communication is the foundation of a good relationship and if you've worked to develop that with your kid you wouldn't need a law to make up for your lack of parenting. While it would be delusional to believe that you will know everything your kid is doing, you will be close enough to provide input on the most important decisions. Ultimately your goal as a decent parent is raising an independent human being, not a helpless fool. It would be great to live in a world where teenagers had the good sense to wait until they were mature enough to have sex. There is an entire battery of evidence to show that they are better off waiting, but sticking our heads in the sand and pretending it isn't going on isn't moving us any closer to that goal. Until we can find a way to fundamentally solve the problem safely, we need to be responsible and do whatever we can to mitigate their poor decisions. These are our kids folks! What the hell kind of people want to hurt their kids? Republicans. And we are all better than them.
