China Eyes Turbines at Sea to Boost Wind Power

On the surface, I'm sure most of you are saying big deal. Putting turbines out to sea is not big news, we've got them here in the US and so on. What is a big deal is that China is not required by the Kyoto Treaty to do this. They are selecting to do this all on their own, because they have added into their calculations the cost of pollution from Coal fired power plants. I think China's interest in trying to get the technology manufactured there is a brilliant move as well. You go to the market where you're going to have the most exponential growth in demand for power with green technologies. It's going to be hard for firms to resist the incentives I imagine. Maybe with the labor savings they can cut the 2 to 1 cost advance over Coal down some more. I expect that technology will be key, before long we will see an equal footing for green technologies like Wind and Coal. Now I know what you're thinking that new technology could be applied anywhere, but that's not true in the case of Coal power. They have been slow to invest in new technology, while the green technologies have to have the new technology to bridge the gaps. So I welcome China to the Green technology race. Hopefully they will change the face of the technology and help make the world a better place.
