Economy Grows at Slowest Pace in Two Years

I love the quote "Slow Pace Is Evidence of New 'Soft Patch' in the economy". It's interesting that the economy never seems to get out of these soft patches for more than a month at a time when the Republicans are in charge. I wonder if there is any relationship between their utter mismanagement and the ever weak economy under their leadership?? Obviously there is and yet economists seem mystified by the direct relationship between the Republican misbehavior and our country's economic woes. Not much else that can be said on the subject. Just the realization in another year we will get a chance to get rid of these brain-dead morons in Congress, and maybe if we act quickly enough we can fix things even though the country is being led by a crackhead.

Believing that the state of the economy is due to the President of the USA is a "cop out". Your purchasing of hybird cars that uses alternate energy for propulsion does more to bring gasoline prices down than asking producers of fuel to produce less. That is like asking programmers to produce less software to reduce the cost of computer use.

If we users of gas would walk for local needs, place more insullation in our homes, plan our menus and purchases on a monthly basis, etc, we could reduce our demand and need for it.

Please the sin of omission in the positions of power that the Republicans currently hold are unforgivable. You can't sit there and tell me that you seriously believe that if 5 years ago, the energy policy hadn't have been written by oil companies to maximize their profits that we wouldn't be in the situation we are today. I'll remind you that they've been caught red handed manipulating energy prices in California among other places. Any energy policy that does not make an effort to decrease demand is an absolute travesty of justice.

The level of demand can be directly effected by the federal government. By changing building codes, CAFE standards, and a myriad of other rules and regulations the federal government has the power to decrease the demand in a matter of years in this country. But the Republicans don't believe in helping people reduce demand, they would rather see things get out of control so that their buddies in the different industries that are profiting from their lax regulation efforts can make trillions of dollars profit. So despite what you may believe as a radical supply sider, the truth is that the government plays a major role in regulating demand and it's only the Republicans trying to harm our country that has allowed things to get out of control like they are currently.

Mandrake, slow down before you blow a fuse. We need people like you in elective office so you can lead by example and not be rhetoric!

Are you programmers doing all you can to make computers more efficient and to decrease the public's need for more programmers. Is not your moto : "keep it simple stupid"?

I am glad that government is less efficient than you claim for I would not want to have an infallible one.

LP, I can read at a clocked level of 850 words a minute, I can type at 80 words a minute just because, you can't keep up, doesn't mean I'm in any danger of "blowing a fuse". I'm completely unqualified for public office because I've actually lived my life and I believe in things. The key to politics is compromise, which is why people that believe in things only screw things up no matter their political ideology (Look at the current radicals in the Republican party).

This programmer stuff doesn't apply to topic at hand and yet you keep bringing it up. I work everyday to eliminate the need for my position as a programmer, but that's my job. And one day they won't need people like me anymore, which is fine with me. But none of this applies to anything we are talking about.

Your last statement is just plain silly. If you could have an infallible government, you would want it by definition. A government that doesn't make mistakes and plans for everything in advance is the dream. I know Republicans don't believe in it, but good government could be the most effective tool for making our society even greater than it has in the past. And the increasing the efficiency of government require very little effort, but merely a vision. Republicans lack vision, so they can't see it, which is fine. But some of us can see a better government going forward.
