Judge Gives Offenders Option of Church
I'm personally a big fan of alternative sentencing because it's pretty obvious that the way the Republicans have the jails in our country set up that there is no chance of rehabilitation at all in there, so for those that have only gotten slightly out of line, I see nothing wrong with a Judge using a more creative form of non-humiliating punishment rather than making someone into a career criminal. I'm also an even stronger supporter of the separation of church and state, but I can't see how this is a violation of that belief. The Judge made no requirement of which church they were to go to and offered other options if they didn't want to go that route. Now if he had made a requirement of a Neo-Christian organization to turn criminals into something worse I would be up at arms, but this was a very religiously neutral sort of sentence. I mean it doesn't restrict them from choosing to go to Satanic services, which are just about as bad as Neo-Christian services in the long run, but instead he gave them a chance to try and improve themselves personally. Nothing wrong with that, but I have serious doubts that it will be any more effective in the long run than prison, but as a tax payer if it's equally effective and costs me less, it's a good thing. So I'm all for it.
