Netflix near launch of movie downloads
I wouldn't make such an outlandish claim that they are near. I think the real challenge is going to be on the TiVo side of the fence. Their boxes don't have the bandwidth connection needed to support downloading an entire movie. I mean how do you ship a box without a integrated 100 base-T Ethernet card included? It's insane in this day in age to do something like that. I've already gone into the bitter diatribe about not allowing you to set up a TiVo with anything other than a phone connection, so I won't go about reburning that bridge again. Bad TiVo!!! I think in the long run that this will be the wave of the future for both TiVo and Netflix. The Technology is there, just the will and permission to make it work in ways that people want it to work will be the problem. Will you be able to transfer this bad boy to your computer to burn it to a DVD for yourself? But if you can get a movie in a 4 or 5 hours after you delete the previous one, you might be able to make an interesting case to people that just want to see the movie.
