Speaking of Murphy...
Ok, folks owning a house is a bitch. A flat out, pain the ass, bitch! Earlier I was checking email in the computer/craft room and Alexis was watching CinderElmo. I hear her call to me, "Mama, water!" So I thought she wanted some water in her cup. I told her, "I'll be there in a minute Alexis. I'll get you some water." She wasn't buying it, "No Mama water!!" The next thing I know I hear her slip, fall and start crying. So I go rushing in and she is laying in 1 INCH OF WATER ALL OVER THE FLOOR! Of course this didn't impress her so I picked her up and she was ok. She pointed to the floor still crying, "Mama water!!" The washing machine exploded. Water everywhere. I immediately turned off the water, but even with Alexis catching it immediately we still had water everywhere and to top that off it flooded the basement too. When the kid tells you there is water then listen! So we went to the basement to inspect the damage and Alexis points to the water dripping from the rafters and says, "It's raining!" And I guess in way it was since it was dripping everywhere. None of the hoses burst so we think it may be something with the valve at the bottom of the washing machine that failed. Jamison came home from work and we're dealing with the problem as we speak.
On top of that I discovered one of the trees in our yard has been attacked by Carpenter ants and some other variety as well. The tree guy happened to stop by today and give us an estimate for that as well. Let's just say it isn't pretty either. The whole tree has to go.
When it rains it pours and I guess in this case quite literally. Sometimes owning a house isn't worth it. I miss the days of renting when you just call the rental office and tell them to come fix the problem!! It appears we are going to have to buy a new washing machine and our dryer hasn't been drying well either. Wouldn't it be nice if money grew on trees?

Have Jamison check the thermostat on the dryer. What makes an apartment fun is if the people upstair have a leak in any of their appliances guess which way the water runs. Could be your drain to the outside from your washer is stopped up. Listen to the expert here. I have been followed around by the "god of water" for about 10 years. My leaks usually start at about 2 AM. and I put my feet down on wet carpet.

Have Jamison check the thermostats in the dryer. We had two burnt out at one point. The root of the problem was the lint clogging the vent line, of course. The previous owners had put a soffit panel over the vent!
No, you said "well dying", not "drying well", so nevermind :-)
Good luck with the washer, though... I'm no help there, other than to make sure the hoses are tight.
I don't miss renting; I never rented anywhere that had a washer/dryer, and I never rented anywhere that had prompt repair service. Plenty of places with painted-over outlets, though.

That was actually a typo. I meant drying well. That's what I get for typing fast! LOL
I've been wanting a more enviornmentally friendly washer and dryer for a while now so this was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back so to speak. I ordered a set and it will be delivered on Thursday.

When my washing machine broke down (and I subsequently got a new one), I then discovered my dryer worked better. Seems that the problem was the washing machine wasn't spinning out the water in the clothes good enough...and drying took forever.
Sorry to hear the washer tore up. If it's any concilation to you, I've had a day from hell myself.

I'm sorry. What happened in your neck of the woods?

Sorry to hear about the problems. Every time something goes wrong, I realized that I miss renting. You place your call, go on to work, come home, & everything's fixed. Now I have to take care of it all myself. Half the time I don't even know who to call... So it could be worse, at least you've got Jamison there to do the hard &/or yucky stuff.

I'm not much help on the things going wrong front. All my knowledge and experience is second hand. I've watched my dad do this stuff for years, so everything I know is from a secondary point of view. So I'll look at something, dial up my memory of how it looked getting fixed, extrapolate the reasons that certain things I saw were done. And then if there are loose ends I can't figure out why or how a step is suppose to be done, I have to call him up and cross reference what I saw with what actually was done. Unfortunately a lot of what I think were his reasoning are completely baseless. Time and again, he'll ask why would you think that is how it was done. So I'll recall some instance from my childhood of when I saw him do something, he'll laugh. Then explain that he was just jury rigging, or that he did some steps when I wasn't there, or even worse that he had done it wrong and had to do it all over again later. Also since I'm a global thinker, it takes me two or three times longer than the normal person to work on something. It took me three years to build Dianne some steps because I was working out all the physical problems. But in the end I made them without any mistakes (except one minor spacing error I could have corrected, but was tired by that time and just ignored it). Working with a perfectionist is worst than working with any other type of person as Dianne will probably happily attest.

He's right on that one. He comes home and follows directions. He helps out a lot, but if I didn't stay on top of things it wouldn't happen.

I can make impulsive leadership decisions, I just abandoned that way of life because I was just too evil about it after a certain point. I don't like being an agenda driven person so much anymore. I too easily get drunk with power, so I'd rather have none to keep myself in line.
Say = stay I presume dear? Besides it's better to be the critiquing voice of reason than the person being critiqued for throwing out decisions that need to be made. ;)

It says "stay" now. The miracle of editing. ;oP
