McClellan Refuses To Answer Questions About Levee Funding
REPORTER: I’m talking about policy
REPORTER: One project, for instance, is the one where people felt they needed $60 million in the current ‘06 fiscal year, and they were given $10 million. Those types of projects. And a lot —
MCCLELLAN: Which project is this?
REPORTER: Southeast Louisiana Flood Control.
MCCLELLAN: Flood control has been a priority of this administration from day one.
Man, where have I heard this line before? It's coming to me, give me a minute....Oh yeah, it was the answer to terrorism priority after 9/11. It's so amazing how all these things are a top priority for the Republican Administration AFTER a disaster has occurred. In my experience an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or in this case a couple hundred billion of cure.

Mandrake what is MCCLELLAN's back ground is he an Engineer or is he one of those paper pushers that the GOP put incharge of the ACE in last days under Clinton when they openned the top Jobs a the ACE to non Engineers.

Worse, he's the White House Press Secretary. He has no knowledge or experience with anything that's actually going on. His job is to flat out lie whenever the Administration is caught in a matter of mismanagement. He spins the happy face on everything they do wrong, as you can see he's constantly busy given the regular and gross incompetence that is the norm with this Administration.

Mandrake. This is why the United States Army Corps of Engineers need to be lead by Engineers. As one I know that most of us are not bean counters, paper pushers, or Lawyers. We do have some that after getting their MBA on the side become slaves to the dollar, but most do not. In an other note Mandrake you once told me that Civil Engineers only make targets and in the case of New Orleans we over many generations have built one that only mother nature could take out.
If the nation ever rebuilds the city it will need it engineers to look at Nature find ways to build defenses for the new city. This may include man made barrier island chains, putting the swamp back, and sand bars. From medieval castle design engineers need to look a multi walls, dry ditches, and protected supplies of the public daily needs to weather a siege until it is lifted. From modern design pumps who's back up power supply is above the high water line, raise the city up higher than the water around it, build in back up power to key facilities and infrastructure (AKA Police, Fire, Hospitals, National Guard, EMA, Pipe lines, Refineries, etc).

I certainly have nothing negative to say about the Corp on this one. They made all the proper warnings and budget requests. So far I've found no problem except at the level where the money is spent. Which is a completely Republican controlled area.
On a side note, do you honestly believe they should rebuild that city where it is?

Man v/s Nature Mandrake. Is it in Man's nature to ever back down. Maybe a reduced sized city.
