Weekend Project

Ok, so the MDM people have been problems getting contractors out to fix cable problem. This weekend I had reached my wits end and decided I would just fix it myself. First thing I noticed was the box outside wasn't closed properly. Unfortunately the contractor that did the installation put it too close to the electric box and it wouldn't close properly so he had put the plastic thing on it to make it stay closed. Well it had let all sorts of moisture and dirt into the box. So when I opened it there was rust all over the splitter. So I picked up a new splitter with gold posts on it. Probably doesn't matter, but it looks shiny and I will always pay more for shiny. So I attached all the different cables onto the new shiny splitter. The second problem I noticed is that one of the twisty thingy on the end of the wire is cracked. Which means the wire has been exposed to the elements. Not good at all. So I used this as an excuse to buy a crimping tool. I'm always looking for an excuse to buy a tool so that was cool. And I found a new end thingy that didn't require a crimper, but I'll need the crimper someday for sure. Anyway it takes forever unlike what the directions say, but I finally get the thingy on the end of the wire correctly. So I go to the TV downstairs that was having signal troubles and sure enough it works flawlessly now. So I'm all excited and I rush upstairs and turn on that TV but it's still dead. At that point I'm mad. So I go downstairs and take the working cablebox from the computer room, carry it up stairs and plug all the wires into it and guess what? That's right...the damn thing worked fine!! So all my work only solved half my problems with my cable. So I called the cable people and cancelled the service call, since I had fixed everything they could have fixed anyway. And now I have to take both boxes in and get the one downstairs converted over to a TiVo. Dianne is hinting about needing a third TiVo in the network because the freaking networks are putting all the good shows up against each other for some reason so we might as well be prepared.

I couldn't find another way to write to you (maybe I just didn't look hard enough) but I love your space here! LOVE IT!!! I found it while searching for a picture of the Wizard of Oz. Yours with Bush and his buds turned up. How true! Anyway, wanted to say WAY TO GO and your daughter is a doll!

Take care!
Katherine

you need a good pc based pvr. no subscription fees. the only issue i have is that you have to get one that is digital ready. the one i have can't go into the digital channel range, which means treating it like a vcr, through channel 3, and no automatic scheduling... something to consider.

It's on my list of things to get. Our master server is down right now because of one of my Linux experiments gone astray.
