Kos-Eye View
All I can say is ! I can't believe they printed something that close to the truth in an American magazine. The folks at Newsweek must be trying to get on the Republican hate list or something. As always Markos is dead on with his analysis. Mind you there are still a few things we disagree on, but as a whole I'd love to see this kind of truth to be my starting point most days. I really agree with him that Bloggers are a bad source for fund raising. It costs money to run a blog and we don't have a lot extra usually laying around to fund political groups. We can lead people to funding choices, but the reality is that we don't have anymore influence than that. The one place I have to disagree with him on is the 2006 race. I'm still leaning towards a shift in at least one house of Congress and he doesn't buy that. I understand his cynicism on the subject because the American people have betrayed themselves before and there is no reason to think that good sense will suddenly overtake them this election especially with the Republicans "counting" the votes. But I think he's underestimating the entire picture of what's happening in this country right now. The American people are angry and they are looking for the source of their rage. They've stopped trusting their normal outlets of information and are looking for someone to lead them. I think that's where the blogsphere will be able to play an important role in the next election. Next year will be filled with scandal and corruption coming out of every pore of the Republican party. The party's condescending platitudes of "trust us" just doesn't ring true to even the most devout Republicans. They are starting to feel like they've been taken for fools. There is the core 20% or so that would never flinch if the Republican party got on national television and explained they were the minions of Satan, but the rest of the party want to view themselves as reasonable and intelligent people and they looking for an excuse to join with the rest of the country that has been alienated from them and get America back on course.
To end on a positive note, I have to agree with him that Warner is the presidential candidate to watch in 2008. I don't know what Hilary's plans are, but just the suggestion that she might run ties down Neo-con resources trying to defame her and that's good for everybody. If you get a chance go over and read Markos' insights on the political future of this country. And if you get a chance pick up his new book.
