"No Pwease!"
We've been working with Alexis to say "No please" when something happens that she doesn't like. I started this a month or so ago when it became apparent to me that a lot of "well meaning" adults are actually quite cruel to children by harassing them mercilessly, when in fact they are the ones that should get a grip on reality not the child!
Anyway, so instead of Alexis pitching a fit, we've been teaching her to simply say "No please!" or "Stop please!" and then if whomever is bothering her doesn't do as she says then I say something to them about it because it's ridiculous to pick on a child! This seems to be working quite well, except for now whenever Alexis doesn't want to do something she says "No pwease!" or "Stop pwease!" So now we are working on helping her to understand that sometimes there are things you don't want to do (i.e. bathing, eating, going to sleep) that you have to do anyway because they are what's best for you.
Last night Alexis didn't want to go to bed and she kept saying "No pwease! No pwease! NO PWEASE!!" When we explained to her that she had to go to sleep and how it is alright to say "No please!" when someone is touching you or tickling you or being mean to you and you don't like it, sometimes when Mommy and Daddy do things "No please!" doesn't work because we are doing what's best for you. She looked stunned and told me, "But Mom I'm using my words!" I had to suppress a laugh at that one. "Yes you are using your words and it's very good that you are, but you still have to go to bed!"
Isn't parenting fun? LOL ;o)
