Pooh
Alexis has developed an attachment to Pooh as of late. She found all my stuffed Pooh things in the basement that were "hidden" in a box to keep them away from her and she became hooked. So the other day I saw that Pooh's Heffalump Movie was coming on one of the movie channels so I TiVoed it for her. I thought she'd enjoy it, but she HATED it! It scared her. It is not the Pooh movies of yore where they are calm and tell a story from the hundred acre woods. This movie is an all out assault on the senses. At the beginning of the movie you hear the "heffalumps" (elephants) stomp through and it scares all of Pooh's friends, except for Roo, who jump up and run to Rabbit's house to seek his "wisdom". From there they immediately set off to capture a Heffalump, which is sort of dumb if you think about it...why would you set off to capture something you're terrified of? Alexis looks at Piglet and immediately gets concerned "Mama! Piglet is sad! Why is he shaking?" Right then and there I turned it off and I deleted it from the TiVo. We didn't watch the rest of it and didn't see what I'm sure is the "moral" of the story. Perhaps they realize the Heffalumps aren't all bad and they all become friends, or maybe they never find a Heffalump and they return home in fear, who knows? That's not the point...I don't care what happened, that is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the whole Pooh franchise has gone down the tubes and straight into the sewer that is American "entertainment"! I'm going to order her an older, calmer Pooh movie from Amazon.com. Disney really has butchered Pooh and not just with this new girl replacing Christopher Robin nonsense. Way back when they seemed to at least get the gist of what Pooh should be. It wasn't exactly like the books, but the overall feeling was right. This movie clearly illustrated that now they don't grasp the concept and don't care to either. I was not impressed.

If she thought The Heffalump Movie was scary, don't get her Pooh's Grand Adventure--which actually is scary. The beginning of the movie was one of the four five-minute segments that were in any way scary. Rabbit leads an expedition to capture the Heffalump, but Roo is told he has to stay behind because he is too little. So he goes off on his own, 'captures' a Heffalump kid and befriends it, and they play all day. (That is most of the movie.) Then the older animals come back and capture the little Heffalump and it gets scary and sad for a while again. There is another section in the middle where Rabbit, et. al. manage to frighten themselves into a tizzy that is marginally scary. The message is anti-racism, BTW, don't be afraid of someone just because they are different from you.
Marilyn loves it and would watch it all day if I let her.

If it helps, think of these as Roo movies instead of Pooh movies; he's the main character in Heffalumps and the Tigger Movie, anyway. Apparently Pooh is too grown up for the target audience.

Actually, now that I think about it, it's just that Roo is the only one that they can make talk like a modern kid, all the other characters have set speech patterns in the books.

I haven't seen the Tigger Movie or the Piglet Movie either. Neither of them piqued my interest.

Mine either, but my interest was not required. At least we managed to keep grandma from taking them to the theater to see it.

Alexis has never been to a movie theater and probably won't go to one anytime soon. She's not ready for that kind of sit down sort of situation yet.

Neither has Marilyn. Grandmommy took Alex (and me) to The Tigger Movie when it was out in the theater--he was about three. I made her stand in the back with him when he got freaked out by the overly loud sound system; it was her idea, not mine, to take him. He's only been to one other movie in the theater, that was Jonah. I wish theaters weren't so loud--I can just barely tolerate them, Alex would not be able to stand it for a whole movie (still). Every time we go out there she wants to take them to a movie, and she just can't understand why I don't want them to go.

Just do what I do...say no! ;o) LOL
I don't think the volume would bother Alexis. She likes loud much like Jamison.
