Maryland's Republican Governor Issues Devastating Blow to Diebold!

Wow! I have to say I'm utterly stunned by this story. The Republicans in Maryland have managed to give themselves a 5% drift in voting by using Diebold. Now suddenly in an election year the Republican Governor drop kicks it. I wonder if it's because he can't guarantee he can get it within the 5% drift range this year without the Gay Marriage ban his buddy in the legislature is trying to sneak in to pump up Republican turn out. The political environment in Maryland has turned distinctly anti-Republican over the last couple of years. Ehrlich has been setting up a mini K street arrangement in Annapolis and abusing power just like he learned when he was in Washington. While that kind of stuff would work easily and be completely ignored in a godless Red state, Maryland isn't much of a Red state. Corruption is not something that honest people will stomach for very long. The polling numbers look terrible for all the Republicans running for Statewide office right now and I expect they will only get worse. Pretending to be concerned for the state after 3 years of complete abuse of power doesn't fool anyone but Republicans. Now the question is will we be able to get the old system back in place in time for the next election?

In PG County, we had the old system in place for the local elections last year. It's a much much nicer touch screen system: real physical buttons with the names projected onto it. No receipt, though.

According the office republicans, Maryland has been tolerating corruption for a very long time. With that in mind, my theory is that Bobby figured out that in a state full of left-leaning computer geeks, not only republicans can hack. More likely, he looks at Steele's poll numbers and sees that there is no way he can win even with Diebold support, and actually has enough real conservative left to ask why his taxes are paying the huge cost of Diebold.

Or maybe he just wants to bury the evidence of how he got in to office.

What we used in November last year wasn't "the old system". That was the system that is only approved for city/county elections. We used the Diebold beasties in the 2002 state-wide elections and the 2004 national elections.
