SOTU Speech Review

Since hearing the crackhead speak drives me nuts I never watch anything with him actually talking. Public speaking I've discovered, it is one of those skills you either born with or your not and Commander in Chief Crackhead wasn't born with it! I've seen bums on the street that are more coherent and articulate. So I'd rather read what the crackhead was supposed to say just to save myself the headache. The good folks over at Think Progress were kind enough to put the entire text of the speech up, so if you'd like to figure out what the fool was trying to say you can just read the original text. The Think Progress folks also went to all the trouble to go paragraph by paragraph, point by point and exposed Bush and the Republican party for the liars they are. I think I'll do a separate post for the most offensive part of the speech for your question of the day.

Read the President's Speech at Think Progress and read the lie by lie rebuttal of the speech*.

(*Warning there were so many lies that you have to flip through several pages worth, so just click next 8 to go the rest of the lies in the speech).

Actually, his speaking was surprisingly coherent last night - he knows his polls are down. The odd thing is, the more I drank, the more he slurred his speech.

My review:

And there was much sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Quite a boring and predictable speech. The usual lies and platitudes. Defense of warrant-less spying on US citizens without actually coming out and saying that that is what the government was doing. Amazingly, no new tax cuts. And only about the usual amount of smirking.

-----

Two humorous moments:

1. When Bush said, "Last year Congress failed to act on my plan to save Social Security..." someone on the Democrat side of the aisle started applauding and whistling madly. Which caused a hemi-ovation of the Democrats, cheering each other for defeating a Bush intiative.

2. One of the directions in the SOTU drinking game was:

If Bush introduces Supreme Court Justice Roberts and Justice? Alito, shout "Oyez, oyez, this drink will now come to order!" then drink.

He introduced, we toasted, we drank, we looked back at the TV--and Bush had just helped himself to a gulp from the glass that was standing on his podium, too.

I cut and pasted this from CJ's Thoughts--I have that entry locked to avoid annoying commentary.
