I need a new doctor!

There are few necessary evils I hate more than a doctor. They are incompetent and frustrating in ways I can't even begin to describe. I have certain rules that make it next to impossible for me to stomach one for more than a visit or two. Doctors these days make your average crack dealer seem small time! They have more drug representatives visiting them than patients. It's hard to take people like that very seriously. Add in that they want to immediately assume that you need the most expensive procedures they can do to make some green. I'm all for people making money, but when it's my money it's an entirely different story. So then you have to play the entire game of how do I phrase this symptom so that they actually get to the right issue instead of the easy big money issue. It's an annoying and frustrating exercise. I mean I know my problem quite well. I want them to focus on the immediate concerns I have. (ie: Nothing like going in for an ingrown hair in my back and being told that I need to go on blood pressure medicine. What?? Could it be the large pulsing cyst on my back that has made impossible for me to sleep for the last 3 days because you could not find an appointment for me causing my blood to boil that might have "raised" by blood pressure a hair??) Then I have a requirement that I only be treated by women, which is actually the most restricting requirement that I have evidently. Women wisely never bother with family practice. They go straight to big money Pediatrics and don't waste time with adults. Which I guess makes sense, but men completely lack the ability to care if you live or die, which is a bit disconcerting for someone like me. I also would prefer that my doctor is actually smarter than me. Another trait usually only found in women, which leads me back to my original problem. I'd also like it if they were young, straight out of medical school would be preferred, not cluttered down with years of hate for the practice of medicine. Another one that always causes problems is that I treat a doctor as an advisor not as an authority. Doctor's can make suggestions all they want, but the course of treatment will always be decided by me. Ultimately if I'm not sold on the notion of the treatment it's doomed to fail anyway, so why should we bother going down that road? The doctor in the example above tried to hold me hostage while I was in agony and tried to force me to go on blood pressure medicine. I've never been so angry in my entire life and of course when the cyst thing got fixed, the blood pressure dropped right back down into the borderline high range. Which is fine with me. I'm fully aware of the risks involved and I make sure that I keep the monitoring up. Boy this is turned more into a rant of why I hate doctors and less of a question about if anyone had any suggesting a good one in my area.

You might like our doctor, although she is not young and just out of medical school.

Where is she located?

She is inconveniently located right next to Howard County Hospital. I suppose that is convenient for the husbands' work, but not convenient for us wives.

When we started going to her we lived in Columbia--but I like her so much that I don't mind the 45 minute drive to get there.

Go to the doctor and get better in seven days, minus about $100 or more for the office visit and prescription drugs.

Doctor yourself, save the $100, and be well in a week.

Enough said!

You don't exactly live in the area MF. I don't see the point of the sarcasm, but whatever.

i wish i could help you but alas i don't live near you. i used to be a drug rep and if it's any consolation, i rarely spoke to the doctor. i was basically an overglorified UPS driver and caterer and you are quite right there are way too many reps out there.
