Ken Mehlman stumps for Joe Lieberman

I'm really starting to wonder what is going through the Republican's heads. When the leader of the Republican party uses his time to talk about Lieberman on the talk shows as being an obvious good choice, you have to wonder what's going through their minds. My question is this...are they trying to sink Lieberman? Is the dream that he'll be defeated and come onto the Republican party ticket? I guess they could do that. I believe they can replace the person on the ticket for some time before the election. I have to wonder if the people of Connecticut are actually that radical conservative that they would vote for a Republican Lieberman?? What do the Republicans think they know that we don't? We all know Lieberman is a sellout, so it's not beyond the realm at this point. I wonder if he's going to pull a Benedict Arnold on the Democratic party. The Republicans have done these kinds of maneuvers before in the South, but usually they prefer to have the candidate betray the party when it's too late to do anything about it. Maybe they plan to help Lieberman win and then have him switch parties. Something is going on that we aren't seeing and someone needs to figure out what it is. The average Republican voters may be stupid, but the party leadership are evil in ways most of us can't imagine.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Repubs were recruiting Joe to change parties. Richard Shelby did that here in Alabama back in the 90's, and my husband has yet to forgive him. I hope the people of Connecticut won't fall for it.

I don't know whether Lieberman has really tacked to the right here recently or if he always had these views but they weren't publicized. I don't mind a diversity of views in the Democratic party; what I do mind is his cheerleading for the Republicans. There was a time when bipartisanship worked well, but that time is past. The Republicans aren't interested, and continuing to "reach out" to them is a waste of time and energy.

Yeah, the radical America hating Republicans view reaching out only in terms of total acquiescence to their radical demands. They have no notion of the give and take of politics.
