Some People Are Completely Crazy!!
Some people are just nuts....completely and certifiably nuts! This afternoon Alexis and I ran to the drugstore to get some vitamin E and Alexis asked to go to Starbucks, so I decided to give her a treat and said yes. I was in a good mood given I was healthy and Alexis took a nap so I thought it would be fun to let her go get a Starbucks and see the angels.
We went into Starbucks and ordered our drinks...A tall Strawberry Cream with no whipped cream for her and a venti unsweetened Passion Iced Tea (it's caffeine free) for me. We set out up the sidewalk to go see the angels and ended up walking all the way up to PetsMart to see the fish and cats as well. Alexis had fun running and I had fun following her.
When we got back to the end of the sidewalk in front of Starbucks I saw a guy and noticed he had a SNAKE wrapped around his hand and immediately switched sides with Alexis and started walking faster. What the hell was he doing with a snake in front of Starbucks? I thought to myself slightly panicked. As I've mentioned before I don't do snakes! It comes from growing up in the South with various aggressive poisonous type snakes you had to watch out for. I know snakes are good in the food chain, but I'd rather live in blissful ignorance of their existence and never see them!
Anyway, the guy stood up and started moving toward us and I thought I was going to die. Then he started speaking:
"Do you want to let your little girl touch the snake?"
"No!"
"Oh come on, she'd enjoy it."
"Over...My...Dead...Rotting...Corpse!!!"
"But, I've got another snake..."
And that's when I noticed it...I hadn't seen it before...he had a huge duffel bag at his feet and he unzipped it and there lay the biggest snake I've ever seen in my life! It was yellow and was as big around as a cantaloupe, probably some sort of python if I had to guess, but who knows I'm not a snake expert! It had to be at least 6 feet long and my breath stopped! I felt like I was never going to start breathing again!
"Dear God!" I exclaimed as I swept Alexis up in my arms and quickly moved her across the street.
Alexis' eyes got huge as she saw the snake and she called over my shoulder, "No tank you! I don't want to touch that smake!! Smakes are meant to be in the forwest!!"
As we hurried away a couple of teenaged girls came up and started talking to him about the snakes and I couldn't help but wonder what their mothers would think if they saw their babies touching those creatures and talking to that weird man!!
When I got in the car I immediately called Jamison to rant about how stupid people are. And then it dawned on me...why in the hell did he have these snakes out in public in front of Starbucks? I'll buy that they might need some sunshine, but for God's sake keep them at home in your own backyard! The rest of us don't want to see your snakes!!!!

I actually think snakes are kind of cool, as long as they're behind the glass at the zoo or on display at the McWane Center with a trained handler standing by. Don't think I'd want to see them on the street in front of Starbucks.

What is real fun is to have member of the public bring a 8' pythoon to a meeting at a public building and when your boss objects to the beast they reply that the sign says "No Dogs or Cats" and nothing about snakes. After setting through a meeting where the lady put the thing under the table so it could slither over everyones feet I had the task of replacing all the "No Dogs or Cats" Signs with "No Pets".

Some people like the shock factor. Me, I like the hoe my mama used for snakes. Don't know how you would kill one that long, though. These big 6 to 8 foot rattlesnakes we have down here, give me the willies, cause they aren't in anyone's bag, they are independently contracting for space. Me, I usually give it them.

I can't even handle them in the zoo...or stuffed for that matter! When we were at the Smithsonian the other day in the reptile section the snake bones and stuffed snaked were making my skin crawl! I'm shivering just thinking about it now!

I take mine to the store, and to dance class. Do I ever approach people to touch them. No. You just found one of those people that give the rest of us a bad rap.
IN fact. Cornbread is in Olivia's room. He keeps the monsters away at night.
