Area schools dismiss early due to heat

Let me get this straight...there are still schools in the county that I live currently that don't have Air Conditioning?? I forget, I live in a red part of the state, so they don't believe in Global Warming. I'm sure they are just going to chalk it up to wimpy kids are something. How freaking lame! There shouldn't be a school in this state without at minimum Geo-thermal heating and cooling. I don't care who you are, the hotter you get the less your brain works. You can't educate kids under those kinds of conditions, it's just impossible. It's time to raise some taxes and get this situation fixed immediately, because it's only going to get worse every year. And with the school years lengthening every couple of years, we've really got no choice put to step up.

Not all the schools in PG County have air conditioning yet, either. And most of the DC schools don't. If they were doing a better job educating children, I'd say it was because they were spending the money on education rather than cooling, but they don't even have that excuse.

My kids have been in schools in 3 states, NY,MA,and NJ and none of the schools have AC!

I think this is a northern thing (or should I say a non-southern thing?). I was shocked when we first moved up here and found out so many of the schools didn't have AC. But, since it's not hot as hades (like in the south) that often, most school districts just don't think it's cost effective to put in AC.

Just a different way of thinking. Most schools in south Florida probably don't have heaters in them . . .

But I agree -- geothermal would take care of whatever climate control they needed, and there is NO excuse (short of a solid limestone bedrock - and even that can be accommodated) for new schools not having geothermal systems in them! :)
