Democracy for America endorses Lamont
Not surprising really considering that it's a progressive organization and Lieberman is regressive Republican type. There really is only one choice in the race. I've found it very interesting actually how establishment Democrats have reacted to this situation. Actually let me start at the beginning since I was busy and didn't get to blog about it this weekend. Ned Lamont got on the ballot this weekend through the establishment process. The way it works in Connecticut is that all the party mucky-d-mucks have a big convention and nominate the people they want to run for office. If you get above a certain percentage you can decide to challenge the convention decision and barring that you can get the signatures necessary to force your way onto the ballot anyway. The last way is tough, it requires the signatures of 2% of the population of the state. Given that Lieberman was holding the Democratic party hostage by threatening anyone that voted against him would not get a dime from him for running races and worse they would be up for retaliation in the future for not supporting his radical anti-America campaign today, the Ned Lamont campaign had already pretty much written off the establishment and was well on it's way to collecting the thousands of signatures that they needed. But something strange happened in Connecticut that night. Establishment Democrats offended and angry, told Lieberman to stuff it, that they would vote for the best man for the job. Ned Lamont walked away with a third of the delegates even with the violent Lieberman threats standing against them. I'm reminded of the American Revolution which was the last time that such a brave stand was made against an enemy so vile and sinister. Now if it had been a secret ballot and Lieberman henchmen wouldn't have been able to retaliate against those that made stand, then we'd likely not have Lieberman winning the nomination at all.
Lieberman mean time has gone to attack ads, which is exactly what you'd expect from a worthless Republican. Now Ned Lamont is too rich to run for office, which is absolutely amazing if you ask me. I must have missed the vow of poverty requirement in the constitution. Yeah, he's really gotten that desperate folks, he's still saying he's going to abandon the Democratic party and either run as a Republican or as a Independent. The general feeling is that he's lost all grasp on reality and is just making idle threats. I don't know which it is, but a traitor is a traitor in my book. We real Americans tend to frown on that kind of stuff, while it's gospel for Republicans and godless animals in their ranks, I don't think it would play that well in Connecticut.
