Jefferson Jackson Dinner
I've been debating what to say about this event since I went to it. I have so many mixed emotions about the event and the several times I've tried to write a post about it I've just dumped them. So to keep from being anymore remiss about the experience, I've decided I will just write a post about the positives and I will ponder the negatives for some later date.
I guess I should start with one negative, Dianne didn't get to go with me because Alexis' babysitter was too sick to take care of her. That put me in a foul mood about going, because these things are always more fun when Dianne is there to roll her eyes at things with me. Luckily the Young Democrat wives where there and they made sure I didn't get out of line, so I've got to send out thanks to the Jennifers for that one. And for making sure I ate even though I didn't feel like it.
I got to meet a lot of politicians in my state. I sat with the Young Democrats, who got a table next to all the big names. So I got sit across from the usually suspects, Duncan, O'Malley, Owens, Sarbanes, Sarbanes Jr., Hoyer, Simms, and so on. I got to meet most of the people I have listed on my website for my area or who've I've blogged about. The speeches were rousing...Not the crap you hear the Democrats giving on national television, no these were speeches like the ones I make. "Once more into breech" Shakespearean sort of speeches that people like me want to hear from Democrats 24/7. I have to say, for a moment there I almost forgot about all the lackluster surrender speeches they were making everywhere else. I was inspired and emboldened to launch the fight again. It was definitely a wonderful night on that front. It was nice to debate the merits of policy and discuss the campaigns with people more closely involved than myself.
And I think that's where I will stop for now. Everything else is complicated functional aspects of party politics that annoy me.

Well I also didn't feel right leaving Alexis while she was sick. Plus she was in such a mood it wouldn't have been fair to Amber.

Is it me or does it seem that the Democrats are so shell shocked from the past that they do not say anything but talking points like Bush. I would like to see a debate where the canadates debated not shot out one liners at each other.

You'll die a tired old man before you see that again. Unless the Republican hate machine is destroyed, this will be the high point of American politics.

So why not get rid of the parties all together? George Washington did not like the ideal of parties and I think he was correct. Or at least not have only two polar opposite parties. We need some one in the middle to bring each side to the table.
