Speakers at the District 33 Club meeting

I'm going to talk about them in the order they spoke. I can't vote for any of them because I'm not in their district, so this is just for informational purposes for those that can and are interested.

First, one of my buddies from the Young Democrats Andrew Pruski spoke. He's a great guy running for the District 4 County Council seat. It's going to be a tough race, but Andrew is pushing forward like a pro. Since he's actually on the board of the District 33 Club he didn't go through the introduction process, because they all knew him. He talked about two events, one is a trolley tour of Washington which is on May 26th. He also announce a fund raising event he's having on June 10, 2006 if anyone is in the area and wants to help out a great candidate for County Council. He's got Mary Ann Love the Delegate from District 32 as a guest speaker. Gourmet appetizers will be provided. To purchase tickets call or email his lovely wife Roxanne. I think teachers should be required to run for public office, just because there are few people who have closer connection to what's going on in the community. So if you can help Andrew out!

Second, Mike Shay was up to bat. It's always interesting to me how people come into politics. Mike spent his time being an environmental activist using the power of radio to reach folks. I wouldn't have thought that it would work, since people in the modern age don't really listen to the radio anymore, but evidently he had quite a bit of success. He's also done a lot of work stifling over development of the land in Southern Anne Arundel County. I have to say, the point at which he impressed me most was when one of the less diplomatic members at the meeting made a comment about "rednecks" in Southern Anne Arundel County. Mr. Shay never missed a beat and said that the district was made up of people of diverse backgrounds. Now that's how a politician is supposed to talk. I was definitely impressed with that kind of willingness to work across the divide. You'd never hear that kind of talk from a Republican. So I definitely think Mr. Shay is the choice for those of you that live in District 33B.

Patricia Weathersbee was the next on deck. She is the wife of Frank Weathersbee the State's attorney Anne Arundel County. She's a relatively new person to the political game, she works at Hope House and the irresponsible Republicans in her district won't take action to keep it properly funded. Out of touch Republicans is nothing new, they have little interest in anything that doesn't involve enriching themselves or their greedy campaign contributors. She's a Counselor and on the board at Hope House. I believe it was said that this was her first actual speaking event, but she held her own with very little effort. She's a strong speaker and passionate about the work she does for the community. She doesn't have a webpage yet that I could find. But if you live in District 33A, she's definitely someone you should consider voting for.

Finally, John Sarbanes was coming home from another political event and decided to drop by and say hello the District 33 folks. He's such a great guy, I always enjoy hearing him speak. It's not really fair that I've ended up blogging about him so much, but he's EVERYWHERE!! I gave him some grief about that fact that I saw him everywhere and he told me that was the idea. I would have thought that I would see more of the MD-3 Candidates by now, there are 8 of them for goodness sake. But evidently I've been missing them all somehow.
