Chris Bowers on the Virginia Senate Primary

Chris woke up on the wrong side of pissy yesterday and was a bit grumpy about the race. I'm not sure what's going on with him, but it appears he's lost the vision for a moment. So I'm going to say all this for him and any of you bitter Miller supporters out there, or anyone who doesn't get what the next 6 years of politics in America are going to be about. Chris says that it's hard to get excited about the race, because there are only conservatives in the race. On one level I completely understand, conservatives annoy the hell out of me, that whole focus on everything being the same as yesterday makes my skin crawl. I can't decide if it's just laziness or cowardice that motivates them, but I know it takes sheer force of will to keep me from going off on them when they are in my presence. The only good thing about yesterday is that it's over, period. The only good thing about today is that we still have time to fix things so tomorrow might be a good day. We progressives just have a totally different mindset about the world.

That being said, the pragmatist in me says that if conservative is popular in Virginia, then by all means let's elect us a Conservative Democrat. I mean that's why we call it a Representative government folks. We know the Republicans will never try to represent the people that vote for them unless they are rich, so even a half hearted Democrat is likely to actually try and represent the people that vote for them. Will they vote to do progressive agenda items? Probably not, such is life! If they are such great ideas, then the people that vote for the Conservative Democrat will get on his case and we'll get the vote. The point is that a bad Democrat is better than the best Republican that exists today. So dump the sour grapes about it and let's move on.

Another point that Chris made was that he didn't think there was any greater chance of Webb winning, because Republicans hate veterans so much that it would have no effect on the voting. On the one hand we see how the Republicans treat veterans and how they support draft dodgers like Bush. It's mute testimony to how your average Republican feels about the military, they view them as toilet paper to be used and thrown away when you're done with it. That's just Republicans for you, they are hate filled people. There is little chance that we were going to get their votes anyway, their hate for America is just too great to allow them to consider any person in power that might actually try to save this country.

This race isn't about getting Republicans to vote for a Democrat, they just hate us too much it's not going to happen. This race is about turning out the Democratic and Independent vote and causing the Republican voters a moment of pause. There is somewhere between a third and quarter of Republicans that would have bought into the hate, fear, and greed message, but given a clear indication that American can be great again, might have a moment of doubt. Now they are still Republicans and they will never stay good for any length of time, but they might cause the Republicans at large to make bigger mistakes than they would have in an unchallenged environment.

That's another thing that I think Chris completely missed as well. The National Democrats support Webb because he forces the Republicans to spend money because they are paranoid. We all know that Webb is going to get swiftboated no matter how long and distinguished his service was. These are Republicans and they hate veterans, I've already covered that. These races aren't about winning, even though in this case in a couple of months that is likely to be a serious possibility. It's about tying up Republican resources in Republican strongholds. Republicans learned a long time ago that you divide and conquer Democrats. You focus on their weak points and when you have defeated them where they are weak, you focus all your resources on defeating them where they are at their next weakest.

The Democrats got distracted by the massed attack that they retreated, which was utter insanity, the Republicans have decimated their strength at this point. The Democrats are going to suck the life out of the Republican party by killing their advantage with a thousand paper cuts. Remember these vile scumbags pour money from their unchallenged districts into their challenged districts to win. Take away that flow of money and they have to make bigger deals for their corrupt campaign contributors to get more money. You see how quickly that the 50 State Strategy caused the Republicans to extend tax cuts for their corrupt campaign contributors. They are getting desperate. They spent an 1/8 of their budget to hold the CA-50 from a Democratic defeat. For all the effort they've put into pounding their chests about that "victory", they can't hold that kind of battle everywhere at once. They are desperate and stupid, so now is the time to push even harder against them.

These are the most vile and degenerate monsters on the planet, we will fight them all, everywhere to save this country. And if Webb is the man to do it in Virginia, then that's who we will depend on.
