How to get on my bad side!

My wife was mad when I got home on Thursday. She asked me when did we ever become Republicans? I gave my standard clueless husband look trying to figure out what was going on. It appears one of the radical Republicans running for the County Executive sent out campaign literature to our house to the title "Fellow Republican". We've never had a Republican registration, so it's kind of curious choice to label us. I wonder if this is the Republican standard conversion strategy, call someone a Republican and suddenly they will abandon their principals and morals to support their radical hate ideology. Why on Earth would we support a Republican after years of balanced budgets at the County level despite a Republican depressed economy? It's mute testimony to out of touch with reality all the Republican candidates for public office are. What I love is the choice of words that they all seem to use. So I'm going to translate Republican so that everyone grasps what they mean when they put out their talking point.

Greater efficiency and accountability: This means outsourcing everything to Republican contractors at twice the price. The accountability generally only applies to non-Republican contractors while they are in the process of privatizing the entire organization with effectively no bid contracts for the rest of time.

Nurture local business: This goes back to the outsourcing of all the functional parts of the county structure to the Republican cronies. Mind you that much like we saw with Katrina usually allows the use of illegal immigrant labor, at substandard pay while charging premium prices to the taxpayers. So the reality is that the local businesses are almost always run out of business by wealthy outside contractors that the Republican bring in to use the profits stolen from the taxpayers to prop up their campaign.

Support Public Safety: Well we've seen time and again that strong law enforcement when spoken of by Republican, it usually in reference to pushing out the undesirables. Given their radical hate ideology, it's pretty easy to make a list of everyone that would be on the way out. Also the reason why you don't want them taking over the police force in any meaningful way. As we've seen in Florida, it doesn't matter what law a Republican breaks, they are let off the hook. Election fraud to drug abuse, when the Republicans are in charge, there are two sets of laws. One for non-Republicans and one for Republicans.

Help teachers grow as professions: This is code for growth through adversity. Republicans are big fans of oppressive punishment of teachers for trying to educate students. The notion of a free and equable education for everyone offends the radical hate ideology of the Republican party. Most days Republicans seem to be trying to meet the Khmer Rouge standard for education. Their distain for education and students is legendary.

Help students thrive as true learners: Much like with their view of the police force, the Republicans strongly believe in the separation of the have's and have not's in education. The acquisition of knowledge for knowledge's sake is very unpopular among Republicans. They would much rather that only those that embrace their radical hate ideology be allowed to be educated. Smart kids that don't believe the way they do are troubling for them. They prefer to deal out harassing discipline and violent reprisals against the next generation of enemies and hope that they can encourage the kinds of radical thinking that defines their party to be the standard of education. They view the educational institutions as a breeding ground for free thinking and they want it squashed at all costs. They want them to be cookie cutter factories for generations of ignorant drones that will fall in line instantly on their command.

Environmental Stewardship: It's always laughable to hear the party that has gone about gutting every single environment protection in the book in the name of major campaign contributors in the most polluting corporations on the planet, say something about stewardship. The Republican party has defined itself by being the party that is anti-environment. Their code word for it is "Stewardship". For most of us stewardship means careful use of resources to make sure that you have enough for the future. For a Republican, Stewardship means making sure you can maximize the most amount of campaign contributions with each giveaway! That's not stewardship, but as you can probably gather by now Republicans usually mean the opposite of what they say anyway, because they hope that no one will look too deeply at their past records.

There never is a question for which the Republican party is the right answer. Well unless you're trying to destroy everything that you've worked to build for generations.

Did it talk any about improving the roads in the county? Sorry to say this but the roads around your town are in first and second stages of decline.

No that kind of stuff falls under Greater efficiency and accountability. They love to rob the construction funds for maintenance work to set up massive givebacks to the wealthy in the county. They happily will pay twice as much for half the work and then find some scapegoat group to blame when things get so bad the system starts failing. On the road fronts we've seen all across the US, that the Republicans blame truckers and bad contractors when the roads start failing. I'm sure we will see more of the same if we have a Republican elected. Unfortunately growth always comes faster than the money to pay for the growth. America under Republican leadership has become the nation that is robbing Peter to pay Paul when it comes to maintaining the critical infrastructure for commerce. For all their whining about how important it is, they sure as hell don't like to pay for it.
