You've Gotta Love Polling In The Morning!
HARTFORD, Conn. - Millionaire businessman Ned Lamont opened a double-digit lead over veteran Sen. Joe Lieberman less than a week before Connecticut's Democratic primary, according to a poll released Thursday.Lamont, a political novice, had support from 54 percent of likely Democratic voters in the Quinnipiac University poll, while Lieberman, now in his third term, had support from 41 percent of voters. The sampling error margin was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
A similar survey July 20 showed Lamont with a slight advantage for the first time in the campaign.
"Senator Lieberman's campaign bus seems to be stuck in reverse," poll director Douglas Schwartz said. "Despite visits from former President Bill Clinton and other big-name Democrats, Lieberman has not been able to stem the tide to Lamont."
I hope Lamont cleans the floor with Lieberman's argoant little self! I'm still very disturbed with Mr. Lieberman's sore loser plan to run as an independent however. The whole point in a primary is for the majority of the people of the state Democratic party to make their choice for a candidate by voting for the person they think is best for the job. Whomever gets the most votes wins and clearly in this case it doesn't appear that that is Lieberman. And the mere fact that he is ready to jump ship and become and "independent" (or let's face facts more like a Republican Light in all honesty) speaks volumes to what kind of person Lieberman truly is. He should stand up and honor the choice of the people of Connecticut, instead of slinking away and taking the coward's way out. Lamont has stated repeatedly that he will honor the will of the people of Connecticut even if he loses. Lieberman should do the same, but sadly Lieberman isn't the kind of man to bring honor to anything and he and his ilk need to be driven out of Washington so we can take back our country!

This election is going to come down to GOTV. Lieberman flush with money from the Republican party and their puppet masters has hired 4000 ground troops to make sure everyone that supports him gets to the polls and I imagine they will also be working to undermine Lamont's efforts to get his supporters to the polls, if he follows the strict Republican GOTV strategy. I think DemFromCT over at Daily Kos summed it up best, the best intentions doesn't equal votes. And good polling like this can be a double edged sword. People start getting lazy and think they don't have to show up because it's going to be rout. It's not enough to say politicians suck, you've got to make sure that you do your part to make sure that they don't get reelected no matter how inconvenient it is for you. The entire Republican party and the Establishment Democrats has lined up behind Lieberman in a desperate attempt to defeat the Netroots, because none of them want the notion of a government that is answerable to the American people coming into the brains of the drones they have in their respective incumbent favored gerrymandered states. 90% of incumbents are virtually guaranteed their seats until they choose not to run anymore for office. That's a sad disgrace, but the politicos in Washington want us all to believe that's the only way it can be. It's time for a change folks and the people of Connecticut appear ready to lead the charge. Let's hope that they don't fail us as a nation.
