A Political Sort Of Day

Today started off with Jamison and Alexis venturing out for breakfast, while I stayed in bed and tried to go back to sleep. Unfortunately that wasn't in the cards, so I got up and got moving to warm up! Then Alexis and I went down to the basement and caught up on some learning activities, during which Jamison went out and did some canvassing for Craig Reynolds, who I finally got to meet today, but we'll get to that in a few minutes. While Jamison was out canvassing for Mr. Reynolds I had the pleasure of meeting Walt Shandrowsky's lovely wife Patricia who was canvassing my neighborhood. This afternoon we ventured over to Kurtz’s Beach for the annual George Johnson Bull Roast fundraiser, which was a politically star studded event!

Over the past few months I've heard Jamison mention many names in local politics that he has worked with and met on several occasions. I on the other hand, due to unforeseen circumstances, haven't been able to accompany Jamison to any political events. Either Alexis was sick, or there wasn't a sitter available due to the fact that most of these things are after dark, etc. It just never worked out. So when Jamison mentioned the Bull Roast for Mr. Johnson I was all for it...IF we could get Alexis to take a nap before we went and low and behold with the notion of a large slide being involved and the child actually took a nap!

The fundraiser was held at Kurtz Beach and I must say it was a nice little set up! The view of the Bay was beautiful and the facility itself was very nice. If you live in this area and need a place for a shindig then check them out! They do weddings and everything! Alexis was highly impressed with their playground and we basically had to drag her out of there! Oh and the stickers...She was all about the poltical stickers they were giving out! What's not to like about stickers? ;o)

The first person I met today was Mr. Johnson himself, who was greeting people as they walked in. And though it was just a simple handshake and pleasantries given it was after all his fundraiser and there were a lot of people demanding his attention I was highly impressed. I know that he will be a fine County Executive for Anne Arundel county and as I've mentioned before I like his ideas on the environment and urban sprawl! Mr. Johnson most definitely has my vote in 3 weeks and if you live in Anne Arundel County I encourage you to vote for him as well!

I also had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Tito Baca, who I actually wrote a blog entry about not too long ago and his mother. I can't actually vote for Mr. Baca given we don't live in his District, but he won my undying support for his stance on cigarette smoke! And his stance on waterway restoration and controlled growth is near and dear to me, because any long time readers know my stance on the environment. If you live in Mr. Baca's district I highly recommend you vote for him, because by voting for him you can't go wrong!

The next person I met was Tom Fleckenstein. Again simply take a look at Mr. Fleckenstein's issues and you will find several that are near and dear to my heart! We didn't talk for long because Alexis was dragging me to the playground, but it was nice to finally get to meet him. Mr. Fleckenstein is in my district and I will most definitely be voting for him come election day and those of you in the district should too.

On the path to the playground I got to meet Walt Shandrowsky and his son Jared. After meeting his wife this morning it was nice to get to meet him as well. Again it wasn't a long conversation, but we did run into them again in the parking lot as we were leaving and Jared was kind enough to drop one of his dad's signs off at our house after the event! Mr. Shandrowsky is the only logical choice for State Senator for District 31!

Although I did not meet him personally, Ben Cardin was one of the star studded politicalites in attendance and I must admit up to this point I wasn't overly thrilled with him. I most certainly was going to vote for him, because Steele is a step backward for the state of Maryland and backward is never good, but I can't say that my heart was really into that vote, that is until I heard him speak today! He walked in and you immediately took notice, and then he spoke! Cardin truly is a good choice for Maryland! He will make a fine US Senator for the state of Maryland!

Also I was surprised to find that both Paul Sarbanes and Barbara Mikulski we in attendance! I didn't meet either of them, though I would have like to have met Mikulski. Maybe next time. I was also surprised to see Anothony Brown there, who brought news that O'Malley had flattened Ehrlich in the first gubernatorial debate! John Sarbanes was also there, along with Dutch Ruppersburger, along with many other local candidates. To be honest I was surprised that this many people came to a county level event, but then again Mr. Johnson appears to be quite the uniter! I expect to see him as governor in the future, if not going further up the political ladder!

The last person that I met on our way out to our car was Craig Reynolds and I was so glad to finally meet him! Jamison speaks so highly of him and I have just been amazed at all of the good things I hear about him on a daily basis! I blogged about him the other day if you will recall. Mr. Reynolds will be such a an asset to Anne Arundel County on the whole! From his stance on education, to the environment, to just his amazing personality! We most definitely need more people in politics like Mr. Reynolds! If you live in Anne Arundel County's District 31 I highly recommend a vote for Mr. Reynolds. I have no doubt he'll do a superior job!

So overall we had a lovely afternoon and it was also nice to finally get to meet some of Jamison's fellow Democratic Central Committee friends! Alexis had fun on the playground and it was nice to mix and mingle and be with a group of people who have Maryland's best interests at heart and want to bring the state back into the light! Three weeks to go!
