Dianne's Pumpkin Apple Butter

This time of year I enjoy eating pumpkin when you can get it fresh! The rest of the year I'll settled for canned, but nothing is like fresh pumpkin! And one of my favorite things to make is Pumpkin Apple Butter! Try it...I think you'll like it! :o)

2 cups of fresh pumpkin puree (Or if you don't have fresh you can use 1 15 ounce can of pumpkin, which is just slightly less than 2 cups)
1 cup peeled grated apple (You can use your favorite type. I prefer Granny Smiths, Fujis or Galas.)
1 cup of apple juice
1/2 cup of Natural Dark Brown Molasses sugar (You can use regular brown sugar if you like, but it doesn't taste as good.)
1 tsp of cinnamon
1/2 tsp of cloves
1/2 tsp of nutmeg

Mix all ingredients in a pot over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook for 1 1/2 hours stirring from time to time. Apples will break down and mixture will thicken slightly.

You can either can this mixture using a water bath or you can store it in the fridge. If you do can it it needs to be refrigerated after opened. Once in the fridge it will last 2-3 months.

As always I recommend using organic ingredients and I highly recommend using a natural brown sugar. Natural sugars have not been processed and the taste is superb! I highly recommend Billington's sugar. It's excellent and it's better for you in terms of health because it's unrefined.

Serve on toast, biscuits, etc. This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled, etc. Enjoy!
