Ehrlich Finally Concedes Maryland Governor's Race

Mayor Martin O'Malley reclaimed the Maryland governor's office for Democrats today, cutting into Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s base in the Baltimore suburbs and rolling up huge margins in Democratic strongholds in the city and the suburban counties around Washington.

Ehrlich called O'Malley this morning to concede, acknowledging there were not enough absentee ballots outstanding to overcome the Democratic lead.

In a brief and hastily called news conference in the rain outside the governor's mansion in Annapolis, Ehrlich said he congratulated the governor-elect.

It was clear last night that the people of Maryland had spoken, but apparently Ehrlich held on until this morning without conceeding. I for one am extremely happy to see him go!
