Edwards to Quit?

I really hate to hear this. He is the best candidate in the race and has consistently brought the dialog up to where it should be.

I guess we're back to voting for the lesser of two evils and I'm damn tired of doing just that! (I'll be completely upfront and honest in saying I would have a VERY hard time voting for Hillary and Obama needs to pick a position and stick with it instead of saying what he thinks whatever group he's speaking to wants to hear, but of course Hillary needs to do that too! I would not however vote for ANY of the Republican candidates, but you probably knew that already.)

He's expected to announce today at 1 in New Orleans. Truly a very sad day.

Via CNN.

On a side note if things continue as they are I don't think Hillary can beat McCain. Lovely.

Challenger

challpicture.jpg

It's hard to believe so much time has passed! I've talked about Challenger before, but on this day in 1986 the space shuttle Challenger blew up shortly after takeoff. I remember exactly where I was, as many of you probably do as well. It always brings a bit of melancholy to me to think of this, but the crew should be remembered.

Suzanne Pleshette Dies at 70

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Suzanne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died at age 70.

Pleshette, whose career included roles in such films as Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" and in Broadway plays including "The Miracle Worker," died of respiratory failure Saturday evening at her Los Angeles home, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein, also a family friend.

Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006.

"The Bob Newhart Show," a hit throughout its six-year run, starred comedian Newhart as a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients and neighbors. Pleshette provided the voice of reason.

Four years after the show ended in 1978, Newhart went on to the equally successful "Newhart" series, in which he was the proprietor of a New England inn populated by more eccentrics. When that show ended in 1990, Pleshette reprised her role -- from the first show -- in one of the most clever final episodes in TV history.

It had Newhart waking up in the bedroom of his "The Bob Newhart Show" home with Pleshette at his side. He went on to tell her of the crazy dream he'd just had of running an inn filled with eccentrics.

"If I'm in Timbuktu, I'll fly home to do that," Pleshette said of her reaction when Newhart told her how he was thinking of ending the show.

Born January 31, 1937, in New York City, Pleshette began her career as a stage actress after attending the city's High School of the Performing Arts and studying at its Neighborhood Playhouse. She was often picked for roles because of her beauty and her throaty voice.

"When I was 4," she told an interviewer in 1994, "I was answering the phone, and (the callers) thought I was my father. So I often got quirky roles because I was never the conventional ingenue."

She met her future husband, Tom Poston, when they appeared together in the 1959 Broadway comedy "The Golden Fleecing," but didn't marry him until more than 40 years later.

Although the two had a brief fling, they went on to marry others. By 2000 both were widowed and they got back together, marrying the following year.

"He was such a wonderful man. He had fun every day of his life," Pleshette said after Poston died in April 2007.

I always liked Suzanne Pleshette and her husband Tom Poston too. May she rest in peace.

Brad Renfro Dead at 25

Actor Brad Renfro has died at age 25, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Renfro died Tuesday at a Los Angeles apartment where he spent the night with friends, Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles county coroner, tells PEOPLE.

Renfro was heard snoring overnight, but found not breathing later Tuesday morning, and the friends called 911. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene at about 9 a.m., Harvey says.

A cause of death was not immediately determined, but Renfro had a history of drug problems.

Drug overdose is "obviously it's a possibility considering his history, but right now all we have is the history of his drinking the previous night," Harvey says. "All that we have is that he was last known to be alive during the morning hours and he was snoring."

The actor, who starred in The Client and Apt Pupil, had recently completed a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton.

Film director Joel Schumacher discovered Renfro at age 12 and cast him in the 1994 John Grisham movie The Client (which also starred Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones). The following year, PEOPLE named the young screen hopeful one of its "Top 30 Under 30." The actor's other credits include Tom and Huck, Ghost World and Deuces Wild.

Brad was starting to make a name for himself as a child actor around the time I was thinking of leaving Knoxville. I actually knew some of his family, though I never met him. This is truly sad. He seemed like such a lost soul.

Happy 50th Smurfs!

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- The Smurfs -- led by Papa Smurf and Smurfette -- kicked off a year of 50th birthday celebrations Monday with Smurfberry cake and sasparilla juice.

The late cartoonist Pierre Culliford -- best known by his pen name, "Peyo" -- first introduced the tiny blue figures in a comic strip in October 1958. He called them Schtroumpf; they became known worldwide as the Smurfs.

The Smurfs, forest dwellers who live in little white-capped mushroom homes, developed their own "Smurf" language in which nouns and verbs were interchanged.

Their debut on U.S. television in 1981 launched their global rise to stardom and made the Smurfs a household name. A Smurf is a Pitufo in Spanish, a Schlumpf in German, Nam Ching Ling to the Chinese, a Sumafa in Japan and Dardassim in Hebrew.

My sister and I used to watch the Smurfs every Saturday morning as children. Alexis and I have even caught the show a few times and she seems to like them too.

Happy Birthday Smurfs!

Quilted Bag

Things have finally slowed down and I have had some time to be crafty once again! Alexis needed a bag for her dance/gymnastics class so she picked out the fabrics an I made the bag this morning.

Dance Bag

Alexis thought since it's partly for a dance class it should have "dance shoes" on the fabric. Good logic if you ask me! ;o)

Dance Bag

There is room enough for her tap shoes, her ballet shoes, her change of clothes, her coat, etc.

Dance Bag

I started out using a pattern, but it rapidly devolved into gibberish as patterns often do, so I ad libbed the rest of the bag. I ended up adding Velcro to close the bag since it is easier for Alexis to open among other deviations. I like the way it ended up and more importantly Alexis loves it and that's all that matters. :o)

On to the next project!
