What Are You Listening To: Dreary Monday Edition
"Hallelujah", k.d. lang, Hymns of the 49th Parallel (I have heard many versions of this song, but this one is by far the best I've ever listened to. Her rendition just nails the whole feeling of the song.)
"She's Like the Wind", Patrick Swayze, Dirty Dancing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (When I heard Patrick had cancer I got a bit nostalgic and purchased this song on iTunes. I remember watching that movie over and over as a teenager. I've watched it recently and it's a bit corny, but still.)
"No Air", Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown, Jordin Sparks (Her voice is beautiful.)
"Shine", Anna Nalick, Shine (I was surfing through iTunes one day and found this song. It just grabbed me.)
"It's Not My Time", 3 Doors Down, It's Not My Time – Single (Another song I stumbled upon. Catchy.)
"I Am One (Bonus Track)", Chrisette Michele, I Am (Bonus Track Version) ( I was looking on iTunes after Chrisette was on Girlfriends to see if I could find the song she sang there about loving yourself. Sadly they haven't released that song, though they should, and I was listening to her other songs. I fell in love with this one. She has an amazing voice and the message of this song is stirring.)
"Soulmate", Natasha Bedingfield, Pocketful of Sunshine (A beautiful song.)
"Apologize (feat. OneRepublic)", Timbaland, Shock Value (This is a beautiful song. It has a very haunting melody.)
"What I Cannot Change", LeAnn Rimes, Family (I think all of us, women especially want to be everything to everyone and sometimes you just can't. Sometimes you just have to step away. We tend to expect more out of ourselves than even others do. This song deals with just that and it's beautiful to boot.)
"A Simple Love", Melissa Etheridge, The Awakening (I've loved Melissa Etheridge since the moment I heard her sing "Come to my Window". Her voice is just beautiful.)
You're Gonna Miss This, Trace Adkins, Greatest Hits, Vol. II: American Man (A beautiful ballad that reminds you that time passes quickly and not to wish it away even if you think you don't like what's happening at the moment.)
"Hollywood's Not America", Ferras, Hollywood's Not America – Single (This is another one I stumbled across listening to various tracks on iTunes. The title says it all. It's a really beautiful song.)
"So Close", Jon McLaughlin, Enchanted (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture) (Have you seen Enchanted yet? It's an adorable movie and I fell in love with this song when I heard it and immediately purchased it on iTunes.)
"The Tide Is Turning (After Live Aid)", Roger Waters, Radio K.A.O.S. (Very poignant to what is happening in America today.)
"Radio Nowhere", Bruce Springsteen, Radio Nowhere – Single (Who doesn't like a little of the Boss now and then?)
"Your Joy", Chrisette Michele, Your Joy - Single of the Week (This was a free single a while back on iTunes. I had forgotten I had it until yesterday when we were going through my iTunes library to make Jamison a CD to take to work. Her voice as I mentioned before is just beautiful.)
"He Hates Me", Sarah Johns, He Hates Me - Single of the Week (A very funny, peppy song!)
"Whatever It Takes", SHeDAISY, Fortuneteller's Melody (Another song I stumbled upon yesterday while going through my iTunes library and it just spoke to me.)
"Don't Blink", Kenny Chesney, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates (I've been really aware lately of how fast time passes. Time just seems to be screaming by! This song just spoke to me.)
What are you listening to?

How High Will It Go?
Gas hits record prices. We've been curtailing our driving, as have many of our friends. We're averaging in the $3.30-$3.50 per gallon range depending on where you are. Ouch...This makes me glad we have two hybrids!!
Congrats to Giada De Laurentiis on the birth of her daughter!
A dig at Stone Henge.
Vacation in space!
I told you she wouldn't listen.
Selfish bastard.

Catch and Release
I had forgotten how cute this movie is! I was flipping through channels and found it on one of the movie channels. Kevin Smith is hilarious (I just love him!) and his interaction with the young boy in the movie is so funny. In fact the whole movie just is great! If you haven't seen it check it out!

Money to Burn?
Do you have some money to burn? (And these days few of us do!) Then why not get yourself one of the 10 most expensive houses in the world? Because after all who needs food or $4 a gallon gas? Yeah didn't think so.

A Whole Lot of Something Going On
Sometimes you just need to hire a professional!!
Good for Sara! This is a much better upgrade from her last husband!
What's floating out there on the planet's ocean currents?
A whole lot of cracking going on!
She's on to something! One of my biggest pet peeves of all time is saying you don't like something you've never tasted! With Alexis she doesn't have to like it, but she at least has to try it! She'll even tell you "You can't say you don't like something you've never tasted!" Don't you just love it when they repeat things back to you? ;o)
Did they find D.B. Cooper's parachute? This is one mystery I'd love to see solved!
Now that's security!!

Want to Rescue a Couple of Stranded Whales? Let the Dolphin do it!
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- A dolphin swam up to two distressed whales that appeared headed for death in a beach stranding in New Zealand and guided them to safety, witnesses said Wednesday. The actions of the bottlenose dolphin -- named Moko by residents who said it spends much of its time swimming playfully with humans at the beach -- amazed would-be rescuers and an expert who said they were evidence of the species' friendly nature.
The two pygmy sperm whales, a mother and her calf, were found stranded on Mahia Beach, about 500 kilometers (300 miles) northeast of the capital of Wellington, on Monday morning, said Conservation Department worker Malcolm Smith.
Rescuers worked for more than one hour to get the whales back into the water, only to see them strand themselves four times on a sandbar slightly out to sea. It looked likely the whales would have to be euthanized to prevent them suffering a prolonged death, Smith said.
"They kept getting disorientated and stranding again," said Smith, who was among the rescuers. "They obviously couldn't find their way back past (the sandbar) to the sea."
Along came Moko, who approached the whales and led them 200 meters (yards) along the beach and through a channel out to the open sea
"Moko just came flying through the water and pushed in between us and the whales," Juanita Symes, another rescuer, told The Associated Press. "She got them to head toward the hill, where the channel is. It was an amazing experience. The best day of my life."
Anton van Helden, a marine mammals expert at New Zealand's national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, said the reports of Moko's rescue were "fantastic" but believable because the dolphins have "a great capacity for altruistic activities."
Dolphins are amazing creatures. This type of action doesn't surprise me at all. What an amazing story!

Scientists spot white killer whale off Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- The white killer whale spotted in Alaska's Aleutian Islands sent researchers and the ship's crew scrambling for their cameras. The nearly mythic creature was real after all.
"I had heard about this whale, but we had never been able to find it," said Holly Fearnbach, a research biologist with the National Marine Mammal Laboratory in Seattle who photographed the rarity. "It was quite neat to find it."
The whale was spotted last month while scientists aboard the Oscar Dyson, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research ship, were conducting an acoustic survey of pollock near Steller sea lion haulout sites.
It had been spotted once in the Aleutians years ago but had eluded researchers since, even though they had seen many of the more classic black and white whales over the years.
Fearnbach said the white whale stood out.
"When you first looked at it, it was very white," she said Thursday.
Further observation showed that while the whale's saddle area was white, other parts of its body had a subtle yellowish or brownish color.
It likely is not a true albino given the coloration, said John Durban, a research biologist at NOAA's Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle. That's probably a good thing -- true albinos usually don't live long and can have health problems.
A very rare, yet interesting find. I wish there were some better photos of this whale, but it's fascinating none the less!
