Mandatory evacuations to begin Sunday morning in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered a mandatory evacuation of the city beginning 8 a.m. Sunday but urged residents to consider escaping "the mother of all storms" before then."You need to be scared," Nagin said of the Category 4 hurricane tearing along Cuba's western coast. "You need to be concerned, and you need to get your butts moving out of New Orleans right now. This is the storm of the century."
The city's west bank is to evacuate at 8 a.m.
Nagin said the city had evacuated roughly 10,000 people Saturday on buses, trains and planes, in addition to the thousands who left on their own. Buses from collection points would continue running until midnight and resume at 6 a.m. Sunday, he said.
"This storm is so powerful and growing more powerful every day," Nagin said. "I'm not sure we've seen anything like this."
I'm not sure if New Orleans can survive another direct hit given they aren't completely back on their feet from Katrina, but I do know one thing...New Orleans has an indomitable spirit that can not be denied. If anyone can stand up after this is over I'd put my money on New Orleans every time!

We, in San Diego, CA., feel extemely sorry for the evacuees of New Orleans, who will, no doubt, experience extreme price gouging from local gasoline stations who will, undoubtabley, take advantage of those fleeing from Gustav's impending catastrophe. I fear we will see news reports of $10.00+ a gallon for those in desperate need of fleeing from Gustav.
The U.S. Government should institute emergency plans preventing businesses from such practices.
Our hearts and prayers go out to all those about to experience the consequences of this impending storm.

Not only is New Orleans going to be hurt, but most of the U.S. .
A very large percentage of oil is refined in the New Orleans area. I wouldn't be surprised to see 6 dollar a gallon gas if new orleans is leveled.

The storm is not as strong as feared, but still not good overall. I hope and pray that as it moves ashore today it isn't as bad as Katrina. Time will tell.
