A sucky fortune today
A handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.
And by sucky, I mean annoyingly accurate and contrary to my current view of the world. Unfortunately those blessed with the latter (brains) often lack the former (patience). And I happen to be one of those people. Some days the universe just wants to poke you in the eye for fun.

Fortune Cookies
Mine:
Do not seek so much to find the answer as much as to understand the question.
What? But isn't the answer the ultimate goal? I'd say that one is a dud!
Lex:
A day is a span of time no one is wealthy enough to waste.
The three year old gets the best fortune! I'm all for that one. Makes perfect sense! So let's all be independently wealthy so we don't have to work...ever! We can just kick back and enjoy life! ;o)
And last but not least Jamison's:
German proverb: No trees touch the sky.
My sister has always said fortune cookies are actually proverb cookies and low and behold they finally admitted it! And a German proverb to boot! Me thinks they may have gone with the wrong country! ;o)

My Fortune from this evening.
"You will have gold pieces by the bushel."
Interesting. Given that gold is going up like a rocket as the world prepares for our imminent demise as a functioning economy. Or it could be that one of those crazy liberal billionaires is going to give me a job lashing out at the radical right. That might be fun. The Lottery is only up to 64 million and that's not enough to get by on really. That's not even 800k a year if you're lucky and the markets hold. Who knows? I'll keep my eye out for the next couple of days.

my interpretation is that the forces of the universe are reinforcing my advise!!!!!!! but seriously... maybe it is just symbolism. i'd say from the what is posted here, that you already have the gold...

Okay, this is too weird, we had Chinese food last night too. This is the second time in two weeks both families have had Chinese food the same day.
Also weird, Jerry, Alex and I all had the same fortune (as each other, not as you). What are the chances of that happening?
Posted by: cjmr at December 22, 2005 9:04 AM
Well I believe in the manufacturing of fortune cookies that they do all of one fortune at a time to streamline the process. Then they mix them up later so that they don't have anything like that happening. Looks like someone bought from an unmixed source. It's really tragic that my wife watches so much Food TV that I know the manufacturing techniques used to make fortune cookies isn't it?
Posted by: ManDrake at December 22, 2005 9:28 AM
I didn't answer your question sorry. The odds are pretty good that anyone eating out on any given night is going to overlap us. Unfortunately that's a negative by-product of our marriage. Dianne is a brilliant chef and I'm a guy that likes to eat the same 11 meals over and over and over and over. Unmodified, nothing new, the same exact thing every time. So I've stolen her will to cook, so on any given week we eat out at least 5 to 10 times.
Posted by: ManDrake at December 22, 2005 9:37 AM
But what percentage of the times that you eat out is it Chinese?
Posted by: cjmr at December 22, 2005 9:45 AM
"Stolen her will to cook" is this the same lady who made all of those wonderful meals over my Thanksgiving visit with your family? Speaking as a bachelor who has had microwaved pizza and chips for dinner for almost a week. Be thankful that you have a goddess for a wife who knows how to cook meals that are fit for kings.
Posted by: Royal at December 22, 2005 10:24 AM
I put it at somewhere around a third. I love Chinese food, I would happily eat it everyday if I could.
I didn't say I wasn't thankful, my 11 meals are always very good(less than 1% failure rate, 2 weeks ago she made some homemade biscuits that tasted like sawdust, sadly it happens so rarely it's easy to remember them). The problem is completely on her side of the fence.
Posted by: ManDrake at December 22, 2005 10:47 AM
I have never had a bad meal in the 9 years that I have known Dianne. So I will attribute any so called "Failures" to freak material inconsistencies and a palate not use to the wide variety of culinary works of art served at your table. ;>
Posted by: Royal at December 22, 2005 11:21 AM
Why thank you! :o)
Actually I get bored with cooking his 11 meals over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. I like to try new things and luckily Alexis is willing to eat most anything too so it's nice, but sometimes it's a pain to have to cook two meals so we order out...a lot. And like Jamison said Chinese is his favorite. He'll always pick Chinese if given a choice.
Posted by: Dianne at December 22, 2005 12:25 PM
11 meals is kind of limited. What are the 11?
Posted by: Royal at December 22, 2005 12:34 PM
I don't think there are actually 11. I think he just made that number up. He'll eat lasagna (made with only noodles, sauce, ground beef and mozzarella), spaghetti (made with only noodles, sauce and ground beef), chicken fajitas, chicken, roast, pork chops, steak, hamburgers, cheeseburger macaroni (which Alexis wont eat and I don't like that much either) or breakfast food. That's about it. Did I miss anything Jamison?
Posted by: Dianne at December 22, 2005 12:37 PM
Oh and I forgot to add...basically dull and boring food.
Posted by: Dianne at December 22, 2005 12:38 PM
What about a Loaded Bake Potato Soup, baked chicken salad, Toasted Cheese Sandwichs, ect?
Posted by: Royal at December 22, 2005 12:51 PM
Nope. He'd eat the cheese sandwich, but that's about it. And that's sad, because I make a mean potato soup! :o)
Posted by: Dianne at December 22, 2005 12:55 PM
You left out Pizza. And some might suggest that the way I eat rice it should be counted as a separate meal unto itself. I didn't make up the number that's how many there are, oh yeah and fish from Long John Silvers. I would kill for some real fish instead of this crap they sell here in Maryland. My kingdom for a Long John Silvers!! Oh but we are talking about food you can make aren't we. Technically I like Philly Cheesesteaks too, but you really cover that under steak don't you.
Posted by: ManDrake at December 22, 2005 1:13 PM
Peanut Butter!! How could I forget the one food I eat more than any other!!
Posted by: ManDrake at December 22, 2005 1:14 PM
Long John Silver's, huh? You might like this link, then.
Mind you I don't think they compare fish that were pulled out of the water, cleaned, breaded and cooked immediately over the campfire, but they're okay. And besides, where can you actually eat the fish you catch anymore?
Posted by: cjmr at December 22, 2005 1:38 PM
Hmmm. The link didn't work. I'll just email it.
Posted by: cjmr at December 22, 2005 1:39 PM
What about fried catfish?
Posted by: Royal at December 22, 2005 2:25 PM
He'll eat it occasionally, but not very much. We don't fry much around here though. I usually bake or broil fish.

I don't know, sounds like she's going to try and live with us forever. Not cool, she needs to make her own way in the world when the time comes. Prosperity can find her at her house. ;)

My Fortune
"You could prosper in the field of medical research."
Ok. So that's what I should do! I'll have to look into that. ;o)

Don't know yet. We'll open hers when she gets up from her nap. :o)

Today's Fortune Cookie
"You have an ability to sense and know higher truth."
The Fortune Cookie Gods speak much truth! I sure have to spend a lot of time explaining the truth to people, which is very frustrating for me. Neo-cons especially seem completely unable to gain any grasp on reality. Unfortunately we've become a society that thinks we don't have to seek capital T truth and that we can live with little t truth from religious and political leaders that has no relationship to the capital T truth. It's ridiculous when you think about it, but that's the kind of life they lead.

Fortune Cookie from lunch
"You should be able to undertake and complete anything."
I was just thinking the same thing...I should be able to end the Neo-con revolt against the United States and completely eliminate this dangerous plague on our country once and for all. Of course it could have been my light bulb changing project this morning, who knows??

Tonight's Fortune.
My fortune this evening was as follows:
Cleaning up the past will always clear up the future.
I've been trying for the last hour or so to convince Dianne it means I need to go on a Neo-Con killing spree, but she isn't buying that for some reason. ;)

Can I humbly point out that that's NOT a fortune. It's a proverb.
One of my pet peeeves -- these proverbs that go around in cookies posing as fortunes. They should be ashamed. Where did all the real fortunes go? :)
Posted by: Katherine at May 21, 2005 9:01 PM
I don't know, I consider it a fortuate that I got a proverb that tells me what I want to hear!
Posted by: ManDrake at May 22, 2005 8:45 AM
"Cleaning up the past will always clear up the future."
Reminds me of a quote from George Orwell's "1984"
"Whoever controls the past controls the future. Whoever controls the present controls the past"
Posted by: Le Puritan Postmoderne at May 23, 2005 10:54 AM
Very close indeed. But statements are true.
Posted by: ManDrake at May 23, 2005 1:29 PM
I agree.
Posted by: Le Puritan Postmoderne at May 23, 2005 1:57 PM
Sorry, dropped a word, the statements are true.

Fortune Cookie
Fortune:
It is very possible that you will achieve greatness in your lifetime.
My Commentary:
Well will I or won't I? This is very vague! This isn't a fortune, it's a possibility!

Fortune Cookies
Ok, so we eat way too much Chinese food but we just had to add a fortune cookie category because some of the fortunes you get are just down right odd!
For instance Alexis and I got the same fortune last night:
He who expects no gratitude shall never be disappointed.
That's a self fulfilling prophecy if I ever heard one and a bad one at that! I don't think I'll be putting that one into practice anytime soon!
Jamison's read:
Your biggest virtue is your modesty.
Um, I think that was someone else's fortune there dude!

You know, that's one of my personal peeves . . . bad fortune cookies. Most of the ones I've gotten lately should be renamed Proverb cookies. There is a difference between a fortune and a proverb, and someone at the cookie manufacturers needs to learn this difference! :)
