Flooding
It looks like there is some flooding near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I guess that coastal storm system that slammed them and then moved up to us caused some localized flooding.

Ocracoke
Since it was raining this morning Darlene, Jamison, Alexis and I decided to take the ferry over to Ocracoke...OK, well we decided to go and we dragged Jamison along with us as well. We got some touristy stuff, saw the lighthouse, ate lunch at Howard's Pub and then hopped the ferry back to Hatteras. Along the way of course I had to take some pictures of the lighthouse!

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
Darlene and I made a pilgrimage down to the lighthouse this afternoon and boy was it an adventure! Big mosquitoes, high tide flooding and some quick sand! Boy, do we know how to have a good time! But we got some great shots and we had fun to boot and that's all that really matters. ;o)

Currituck Lighthouse
On the way down we backtracked once we got to down to Highway 12 we went back up to to see the Currituck Lighthouse. In all of my trips to the Outer Banks I've never been to this one. I've gone to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse many times and I've been to Ocracroke several times as well. But I have to say this is very easily my second favorite lighthouse, Hatteras being my first, but I was immediately smitten with this lighthouse. It might just have to share top honors with Hatteras, I haven't decided yet.

Sunset At The Lighthouse
I like to watch the sunset on the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse cam. And the past few nights it has been especially beautiful because the moon has been almost full (or possibly even full, I'd have to look at a chart to know for sure!) Which has made it even more beautiful. The sunset over the ocean with the Lighthouse is very calming to me, but I've mentioned many times I have a water soul.
Anyway, I've got a counter set up on my Google home page counting down the days until we arrive on Hatteras Island. Until then here are a couple of moon pictures from the Lighthouse cam. Click on either of them to take you to Lighthouse Cam website itself:
61 days and we'll see the lighthouse from our beach house window. I'm ready to go now!! :o)

Lighthouse Cam
It turns out the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has two lighthouse cams! One shows you the view from the top of the lighthouse and the other shows you the lighthouse itself...How cool is that??!!?!? Check it out!

Havre de Grace: Concord Point Lighthouse
This morning we traveled up to Havre de Grace, which is about an hour from our house, because I wanted to go take some pictures of the lighthouse there and quite frankly I needed a break from some of the stress in my life as of late. I wanted to be near the water so Jamison graciously agreed to take a little jaunt with me this morning.
The trip was actually a bitch as it always is when traveling with Alexis. As I've mentioned before the child does NOT travel well! I finally had to get in the back seat with her and it calmed her a bit, but she still wasn't a happy camper. I don't know that it helped my stress level that much in hindsight, but then again as they say hindsight is always 20/20.
Anyway, here are a few pictures I took of the Concord Point lighthouse and the surounding area. Even a picture of some "holy ground" which I think you'll understand once you see the pictures! Enjoy!

Hello, I enjoyed your pictures. I grew up in Maryland and took advantage of visits to DC and eventually moved to Havre De Grace, Md for two years. I liked seeing pictures of those places on here. I now live in Sacramento, CA. Thanks for posting these pictures... :) sorry random I know.

Glad you enjoyed them! It's nice to see pictures that remind us of where we grew up. :o)

Irish Lighthouses
Most of you that know me personally know that I am obsessed with lighthouses and Ireland! But how much better could you get than having both at once?? Turns out Ireland has numerous lighthouses! Did you hear that Jamison? There are LOTS of lighthouses in Ireland! Not only do we get to go watch crystal being made, and check out Galway's silk, we can go visit LOTS of lighthouses! How much fun will that be? Is Alexis 3 yet? (I can literally hear Jamison cringing from here!)
Check out the official Commisioners of Irish Lights (even the name sounds romantic!) and take a look at all the pictures of their lighthouses that they have! It's really fascinating.

Ocracoke Lighthouse
On Thursday morning Darlene, my mom and I took the ferry from Cape Hatteras over to Ocracoke Island. For those of you who are history buffs out there this is where the pirate Blackbeard met his demise.
The lighthouse located here is small but it's beautiful none the less. Darlene said it was what she thought of when she pictured lighthouses. I tend to picture behemoths such as the Cape Hatteras lighthouse but I'm a bit biased since that is my favorite. Below are a couple of pictures I took, one at the Ocracoke lighthouse itself and one of the lighthouse across an inlet.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
On Monday Darlene, Alexis and I went over to see the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This is my thrid trip to Cape Hatteras but it was the first time I got up the nerve to actually walk up the tower while Darlene stayed on the ground and showed Alexis a tree frog.
Walking up the lighthouse was a big deal for me because I'm terrified of heights. But I decided, being the lighthouse girl that I am, it was time to go up and take a look at the view. I regret not going up in the World Trade Center years ago when I was in New York and I was tired of regretting things I didn't do.
This sign is what greeted you as you bought your ticket and began your climb:

A bit daunting no? But it really wasn't bad. It took me 6 minutes to go up. I stopped once because I needed to and a couple of other times due to waiting for people to come down the stairs so those of us going up could pass.
It only took me 4 minutes to get down and I could have done it faster if it hadn't been for the older lady and child in front of me.
But the view was definitely worth it!

Bodie Island Lighthouse
I LOVE lighthouses. It's all part of my ocean loving soul. The whole history of the old days and the purpose that lighthouses served is fascinating!
There are many light houses here on the Outer Banks including my favorite the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which I'll be visiting again today. On the way in we stopped at the Bodie Island lighthouse. Take a look. It's beautiful!
